The INTERNET BUSINESS ALLIANCE (IBA), a nonprofit
organization incorporated in December of 1994, was founded by the
leaders of the first international Internet business conference, "The
Internet Way of Business" held in Seattle in the summer of 1994 and
which attracted such luminaries such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com and
Internet pioneer Herb Efron of SeaNet.
In the intervening years, as the face of Internet
E-Commerce has morphed into many different markets and channels, the IBA
has evolved into an organization focussed on the key issues affecting
Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce over the Internet and the
Public policy that drives or attempts to resolve many of those issues.
It continues to be aligned with partners from
academia and both the Public and Private sectors, like the Center for
Internet Studies at the University of Washington, the Northwest EC/EDI
Roundtable, the Internet Society, The Boeing Company, Concurrent
Technologies Corporation, Verizon and others.
The invited members of the IBA meet physically and
virtually to discuss and address the various major issues of today’s
developing and expanding B2B eCommerce arena. Examples of Issues
discussed are: Broadband deployment for universal access for residential
and business commerce; taxation on Internet transactions and its
implications; security of business and financial data; privacy of
individual customer and corporate client information; Internet law and
intellectual property concerns, among others.
As these discussions distill into clearer
representation of key points, these various topics are then brought into
public forums, workshops, seminars and before panels of experts for
exploration and resolution. The outcomes are proposed as suggestions for
adoption into public policy or as intelligent and studied responses to
previously stated or proposed public policy having a significant effect
on B2B eCommerce.
A small staff
coordinates a variety of IBA programs (both for-fee and for-free),
including multi-media forums, special interest events, Web casts, and
on-line seminars.
In 2000, IBA established an agreement with Costco Wholesale to make all
of its members elligible for free a free IBA membership. Costco members who have yet to confirm their IBA membership may now go to
Join
IBA to
enroll.
